Awesome Quote in the Campus Fourum

Thursday, September 29th, 2005

Our campus newspaper has a cool feature called the “Campus Fourum”. This is a number with an answering machine that people can call and just leave a message saying whatever they want. Sometimes there is some witty banter back and forth, sometimes it’s just a bunch of crap.

But as Tyson Moore pointed out to me today, sometimes it’s just absolutely brilliant:

My Republican roommate thought that my “I love the Constitution” button was anti-Bush. Isn’t that ironic?

Ahahahahahaahaha!

Broke 10,000!

Wednesday, September 28th, 2005

Some more “noise” for the blog until I get back up to steam. This afternoon was a big event for me when I properly tagged, renamed, and stored my 10,000th mp3. A brief glance at my Rhythmbox Library shows that my properly tagged library now sits at 11,024 songs with a total playing time of 30 days, 3 hours, and 47 minutes non-stop at a total size of 49.6GB

This doesn’t even begin to account the wealth of music that JD has that I haven’t yet integrated into my collection. How fun. :)

Political Quiz

Thursday, September 22nd, 2005

This might be the longest that I’ve went without blogging since I started this site. It’s been another one of those “lots to blog but not enough time” where I end up just not blogging at all. I’m going to conquer that part of my OC personality, honest.

Anyway, just to get into the swing of things, I did one of those goofy online quizes. Only I saw this one on Dr. Hsu’s blog and after taking it I like it.

Stunning New Orleans Interview

Friday, September 2nd, 2005

Wow. The entire situation in New Orleans has been a little bit distant for me, primarily because we don’t have cable television and so we’re not really plugged into the Global Hype Machine at The Bunker. But I think that this interview here really sets the tone:

Mayor to feds: ‘Get off your asses’ - Transcript of radio interview with New Orleans’ Nagin

I’m not a big fan of government action, especially on broad levels… but disaster recovery is one that doesn’t really bother me. Just like Mayor Nagin, it does bother me that we can get a few billion dollars instantly for a political event like 9/11 and an Iraq invasion, but when people are still dying right on our own land, nothing is happening because there’s just not enough to gain politically from being proactive.

It’s a shame. I wish people that advocate political solutions to problems would look at how worthless all things political get when it really matters. If there’s no power to gain, there’s no action from the political. And one can only offer more power so many times… before there’s no more freedoms left to sacrifice.

DOOM 3 Conquered

Thursday, September 1st, 2005

Damn, what a great game! Especially considering I never thought I would be brave enough to finish it.

My previous plan for conquering DOOM 3 has been a success, as I have just finished the game. It provided many hours of entertainment, even at the good clip I was running through the levels, and the game was good enough that after it was over I was kind of hoping for more.

I (as I mentioned before) didn’t get the full experience, as I didn’t really check every PDA that I picked up for story revealing emails, audio logs, and videos, but I was still able to tell when an “important” story item was taking place and pause a bit for the video disks that really filled out the core plot. All in all, I would say that the game was a little too easy on the Rookie difficulty level, and I probably could have turned it up a bit for a little bit more challenge.

It’s funny that I would suggest that, since the majority of the game I went through with “godmode ON” (invulnerability cheat). But often I would forget that I had the cheat on and would just go barreling headlong into chaingun fire like I always do with the cheat enabled… and I wouldn’t die. It would be several baddies later that I would look down and notice I was down to 40 health and flip the cheat back on. Had I been playing tactically, I’m pretty sure godmode wasn’t even the slightest bit necessary.

Sometime I’m going to hop back into the game and use the cheat to get all of the PDAs and Video Disks just so I can listen through them all, I’m sure there were some great ones that I missed.

So, in conclusion, even with me “cheaping” the game experience to the point I could play it without falling on to the floor in the fetal position weeping, it was a phenominal game. I don’t think that I could have handled it without the flashlights I had taped to almost every weapon, and I know that it drastically changed the game dynamics, but I still was nothing short of awed at the amazing sights, sounds, and experiences throughout the game.

I think I’m going to have to pick up the Resurrection of Evil expansion pack sometime in the near future and give it a spin. But not for a while… there’s so much to do that I don’t think I want to give up another 60 hours to playing games.

Anyway, gg id. :)
